Being able to document a slice of your life as monumental as your wedding day is a huge deal. Not just as a wedding photographer — but as a human being who wants nothing more than to see you to live your best life on a day you’ve worked so hard to pull together. This thing called life, the time we have, the things we do — it’s precious and fleeting. Capturing instances that are full of life is what a moments photographer will strive for and sink all their energy.
When the celebration wraps up, this is what I want you to be able to look back upon. A visual diary of a powerful experience. You — surrounded by your favourite faces, creating moments that will go down in your personal history. Having bear witness to over 160 wedding celebrations, here’s a just few ways to make sure you get the most out of your wedding photos while being your amazing self and having fun in the process!
Create opportunity for spending time together.
The timeline you create will have a direct affect on how much you, your family, and friends will enjoy your wedding day. A well paced timeline avoids unnecessary stress. Plan your wedding day with enough time to capture the photos you want and for everyone to enjoy the moment. You can’t stage emotions or the serendipitous nature of candid moments. Instead, give yourself the gift of time to let these special moments unfold at their own pace. These unscripted moments will result in wedding photos that are unique to your personal experience.
Don’t sweat the small stuff.
Planning the most perfect celebration is no small task. Your endless creativity and craftsmanship over the details. The countless days of hard work leading up to your wedding. But like everything in life, sometimes things happen and it’s out of your control. The icing on your cake may melt before the reception even starts. The flowers you just had to have might be out of season when the day comes. A torrential downpour may wash out the scenic backdrop of your outdoor ceremony. If you can see past this, you’ll find yourself looking back at how truly incredible the day is. Because despite things not going exactly as planned, none of this changes the fact you still get to marry your best friend.
Take a second to do whatever the hell you want.
You’ve only got 24 hours to bask in your wedding day glow, so should the need arise, don’t be afraid to steal some time during the day to just DO YOU. If a scoop of mint chocolate chip ice cream will cool your nerves on a hot day — DO IT. Maybe the first thing you’d like to do as a married couple is shoot a round of pool — DO IT. At the end of the day, there’s no right or wrong way to do this thing. The most important thing is to have fun and enjoy yourself because there’s nothing more meaningful than being happy and in the moment!
